WEEK IN REVIEW – SOUTH BEND
South Bend, Indiana - The United States Attorney’s
Office announced that:
PLEAS:
Ø Maria Rodriguez, 19, of Elkhart, Indiana, pled guilty before
Magistrate Judge Christopher Nuechterlein to the
felony offense of misuse of a social security number. Magistrate Nuechterlein
is recommending that the district court accept the tendered guilty plea. Parties have 10 days in which to object to
the magistrate judge’s recommendation. Sentencing has been set for 11/14/12. These charges were filed as a result of an
investigation by ICE-Department of Homeland Security and the St. Joseph County
Sheriff’s Department. This case is being
prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Barbara Brook.
If convicted in court, any
specific sentence to be imposed will be determined by the judge after a
consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing
Guidelines.
DISPOSITIONS:
Ø Casey Lloyd, 31, of Laporte, Indiana, was sentenced by
Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to 19 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised
release after pleading guilty to the felony offense of possession of a firearm
as a convicted felon (dealing heroin and identity theft). This case was the result of an investigation
by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank
Schaffer.
Ø Jesus Rojas, 28, of Granger, Indiana, was sentenced by
Judge Jon DeGuilio to 6 months imprisonment and 1
year of supervised release after pleading guilty to the felony offense of
illegal use of a social security number.
This case was the result of an investigation by ICE-Department of
Homeland Security. This case was
prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Maciejczyk.
Ø Shirley Sult, 57, of South
Bend, Indiana, was sentenced by Judge Jon DeGuilio to
2 years of probation, to include 6 months of home detention, and restitution of
$31,678.00 after pleading guilty to the felony offense of theft of funds from
the Social Security Administration. In
her plea agreement, Sult admitted that she
represented to the SSA that she was caring for two nephews and did not reveal
that they had been removed from her care while still receiving Supplemental
Security Income for them. This case was
the result of an investigation by the Social Security Administration. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United
States Attorney John Maciejczyk.
